What kind of records does Volver Records carry?
We stock new and used vinyl, CDs, and other physical media across a wide range of genres. That said, we're especially deep in Japanese music: city pop, Japanese jazz, rock, electronic, and beyond. You'll also find punk, soul, ambient, and plenty more in the bins. Our three owner-operators source inventory from buying trips around the world, so the selection changes constantly and includes rare imports, test presses, white label promos, and regional variants you won't easily find elsewhere.
Where is Volver Records located, and what are your hours?
We're on Mercer Island, Washington. The shop is open 7 days a week, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Come dig through the crates in person; it's the best way to experience what we've got.
How do you grade the condition of your records?
We use the Goldmine Grading Standard, which is the industry standard you'll see on platforms like Discogs and eBay. We grade the vinyl and the sleeve separately, so a record might be Near Mint while the cover is Very Good. Any visible blemishes, even if they don't affect playback, are noted in the listing. We want you to know exactly what you're getting.
What makes your Japanese imports worth the price?
Original Japanese pressings, especially OBI-strip LPs, command serious premiums on the global market for good reason: the pressing quality is exceptional, and many titles were never released outside Japan. We source directly during buying trips, which lets us offer pricing that's competitive with (and often better than) what you'd pay through export-facing online sellers. Domestic Japanese sellers on platforms like Mercari and Yahoo Auctions list records 30 to 60% below those export storefronts, and we pass that sourcing advantage along to our customers.
Are your prices negotiable?
Our prices are fixed. We put real time into researching fair market values for every record we price, factoring in pressing details, condition, and current demand. We'd rather price things right from the start than make you feel like you need to haggle.
Do you accept trade-ins?
We do! Bring in your records and we'll evaluate them for store credit. The amount depends on condition, demand, and what we already have in stock. It's a great way to make room on your shelves while picking up something new from ours.
Can I request a specific title or pressing you don't currently have?
Absolutely. We have a customer wantlist tool that lets you tell us exactly what you're hunting for. When we come across it on a buying trip or through our sourcing channels, we'll let you know. Collectors chasing specific pressings (particular matrix etchings, regional variants, first pressings) should be as detailed as possible so we can match exactly what you need.
Do you ship orders, or is it in-store only?
For the most current details on shipping availability, reach out to us directly. Our focus is on the in-store experience at our Mercer Island shop, but we're always happy to work with customers who can't make it in person. Just get in touch and we'll figure it out.
What's your return policy?
Because we deal in collectible and often one-of-a-kind items, returns are handled on a case-by-case basis. If something arrives damaged or was significantly misrepresented, we'll make it right. Contact us as soon as possible with any issues and we'll work through it together.

Turkey Sub is our store mascot and a big part of the Volver Records personality. You'll spot Turkey Sub on our branding and around the shop. We're an independent, owner-operated store run by three music lovers, and Turkey Sub is just one of the ways we keep things fun and a little weird. Come say hi.
